Academy Graduate Moves On
Birmingham City Football Club have confirmed the departure of academy graduate Alfie Chang, with the midfielder set to continue his career at League Two side Walsall. His exit brings to a close a long association with the Blues, having progressed through the club’s youth system before stepping into senior football.
Chang’s Journey Through the Blues Academy
Chang’s time with Birmingham City began at Wast Hills, where he joined the academy at a young age and steadily worked his way through the age groups. Throughout his development, he was regarded as a technically accomplished and tactically intelligent midfielder, capable of operating effectively within a structured system. His understanding of the game and calmness in possession marked him out as one of the more promising prospects to emerge from the academy during that period.
First-Team Exposure and Senior Experience
The midfielder made his senior debut during the 2021/22 season, showing composure and maturity beyond his years in central areas of the pitch. Chang’s strengths lay in his ball retention, positional discipline and ability to link play, attributes that made him a reliable option when called upon.
