Fast Start Sets the Tone

Blues came out with real intensity and were rewarded early. Jay Stansfield opened the scoring in the 10th minute, reacting quickest inside the box to finish from close range after Ibrahim Osman’s driving run caused problems in the Preston defence.

Just six minutes later, Birmingham doubled their lead. Ibrahim Osman, who had already made a big impact, got his name on the scoresheet in the 16th minute. After a partially cleared corner, he showed great composure to collect the loose ball, drive into the box, and fire a low shot past the goalkeeper.

Preston Response and First-Half Balance

At that stage, Birmingham looked in complete control, but Preston responded well. The visitors pulled a goal back in the 25th minute through Andrew Hughes, who bundled the ball over the line from close range after a corner caused confusion in the Blues’ defence.

The remainder of the first half settled into a more even contest, with both sides looking to create chances but neither able to add to the scoreline before the break.

Second-Half Chances and Key Moments

In the second half, the game opened up. Preston pushed for an equaliser and created some dangerous moments, including a strong chance for Milutin Osmajic, which was well saved by Birmingham goalkeeper James Beadle, who redeemed himself after the earlier defensive error.

Birmingham also had opportunities to extend their lead. Carlos Vicente came close when his low strike beat the goalkeeper but struck the woodwork, while August Priske was denied from close range following a quick counter-attack.

Resilience Secures the Points

Despite the pressure late on, Birmingham showed resilience and discipline to see the game out. Preston threw bodies forward in the closing stages, but Blues held firm to secure a hard-fought win.

It was a performance built on a fast start and strong attacking intent, with enough defensive resolve in the second half to ensure the early goals made the difference.
